Lee Regatta Cancelled
Just got news that the Lee Regatta to be held today at the Marina in Cork has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

Monkstown Regatta 21st June 2008
The National Rowing Center in Farran Woods Cork was the venue for the Monkstown Regatta 2008. Torrential downpours awaited the rowers of Killorglin Rowing club but this did not deter us and we had yet another very successful regatta with the crew of Maeve Mc, Meabh O’S, Aishling, Kelly and Agnieszka securing a double by winning the WJ14 and WJ15 4X+. The B crew of Niamh, Cliona, Sarah, Caoimhe and Aoife Ross were unlucky in the B final of the WJ14 4X+ narrowly being beaten by Skibberean A. The WJ14 2X crew of Maeve McGillycuddy and Meabh O’Sullivan won their final add to the success of the junior crews!
Monika continued her successful season with a win in the WI 18 1X and was well ahead in the WJ18 1X with 500m to go when disaster struck and her rigger broke. A “catch and drive” too many perhaps! Looks like the manufacturers have to review their stress testing.
Good luck everyone in the next regatta which is tomorrow at the Marina in Cork hosted by Lee Rowing Club. I’m on hols now but hopefully someone else will update our blog with news while I’m away… until then “catch and drive”

Athlone Regatta 14 June 2008
Killorglin Rowers had another very successful regatta in Athlone at the weekend with wins in the WJ14 4X+ and WN 18 1X Pictures available here
We travelled up the night before and stayed at the excellent Coosan Cottage Guesthouse. A big thank you to Mary O’Sullivan for organising this and thanks to Tom, owner of Coosan Cottage, for looking after us all so well! (The omellettes were lovely!). The day started early with our first races being the heats of the WJ14 4X+… By the end of the morning we had qualified for the finals of the WJ14 4X+ (both crews qualifying!), WJ15 4x+, WS18 1X, WJ18 1X. The WJ16 4X+ crew narrowly missed out qualifying by 2ft as did the WJ15 4X+ B crew. Sarah Edwards rowed well in the WJ16 1X but missed out qualifying for the finals, however she was kept busy coxing the WJ14 B crew. The WN18 1X with Monika was a straight final. Not a bad morning’s work!
The finals were not for the faint-hearted, the Wj14 4X+ crew of Maeve Mc, Meabh O’Sullivan, Kelly Moriarty , Cliona Ross and coxed by Agneiszka, beat Tribesmen in a thrilling finish, winning by half a canvas (that’s the bit between the bow and the cox). Well done crew!!
I wasn’t there for the rest of the finals but heard on the Killorglin Rowing club grapevine that Monika won the WN18 1X and came 3rd in the WS18 1X. Well done Monika !! The WJ15 4X+ crew came 3rd in their final.
So another successful day at the office for the Killorglin Rowers, well done to everyone who took part… Maeve Mc, Meabh O’S, Kelly, Cliona, Agneiszka, Aishling, Sarah Evans, Aoife Ross, Niamh, Sarah Edwards and Monika.

Castleconnell Regatta 8th June 2008
Killorglin Rowing Club had a very successful regatta in Castleconnell on Sunday. Castleconnell rowing club’s boathouse has a fabulous setting on the banks of the Shannon and they even had a local celebrity in the form of Pat Short to help out on the day!

Bantry Regatta 17 May 2008
We had a very successful day at Bantry sprint regatta, bringing back 14 gold medals despite the torrential downpours! Well done to everyone who took part.
Killorglin Rowing Club had wins in the WU14 4X+, WU15 4X+, WU18 2x, WU18 1X and WU18 Novice 1X.

Dublin Metropolitan Regatta at Blessington 31May2008
Well done to the victorious WU14 4X+ crew of Maeve Mc, Caoimhe, Meabh O’S, Aishling and Agnieszka(cox) a first for Killorglin Rowing club at Blessington. More pictures are available…
I’ll update this post when I have more details of the results from the other races.

Fermoy Regatta
The sunny skies of Fermoy were a welcome change to the downpours experienced at Bantry regatta the previous week. Killorglin Rowing Club had great success with lots of wins and good finishes:
- Monika and Maeve Mc won the WU18 2x
- Monika won the WU18 1x, WS 1x and WN 1x
- The WU14 4X+ of Caoimhe, Kelly, Meabh O’S, Maeve Mc and Deirdre(cox) were narrowly beaten into 2nd place by rivals Skibbereen.
- The WU14 2X of Meabh O’S and Maeve Mc came 3rd.
- The WU15 4X+ of Sarah Edwards, Nadia, Caoimhe, Kelly and Aoife Mac(cox) came a close 2nd to Cork Boat Club.
Watch Monika and Maeve Mc winning the WU18 2x in a really close finish against Shandon!
Well done to Fermoy Rowing Club for hosting a fantastic sprint regatta and for ensuring that the 110 races went off without a hitch!
