St. Michael’s Head of the River 2012

Killorglin Rowing Club athletes will take part in the first event of 2012 which is St. Michaels Head of the River. The race is held on 28^th of January at O’Brien’s Bridge in Limerick over 3,500m. The event starts at 9am and finished at 4pm. Boys and girls will race against the clock with the winner of each category being announced after the event.

We have a group of 14 athletes travelling and we will compete in the Women’s Junior 15 Quads and Women’s Senior and Junior 15 Single Scull categories. The boys will compete against 30 crews from all over Ireland in the Men’s Junior 15 Quad and in Men’s Junior 16 Quad races.

Our next event after St. Mick’s Head of the River is Cork Head of the River on 18^th of February 2012 on Marina in Cork.

Trials, Newry February 2012

Two of our athletes, Monika Dukarska and Zoe Hyde have been re-invited to take part in the second assessment to Irish Team held in Newry on 11^th and 12^th of February. The girls will take part in 2,000m erg test on Saturday and 5,000m row on Sunday.

Best of luck!

Third assessment will be held in April over 2,000m. We hope to see both girls there.

Attention!

Training on Thursday 1st of December is cancelled.

Boys and girls are training again on the 2^nd of December at 6pm.

National Trials, Newry Co. Down

Two of our athletes traveled to Newry last weekend to represent the Club at National Trials 2012.

The qualification process consisted of 2000m ergometer test on Saturday and 5000m row on Sunday. Only the athletes that made the qualifying times on the 2km erg test on Saturday could move on to row on Sunday.

Both our athletes qualified for the row, both pulling off Personal Best Times. Monika Dukarska had a PB of 6:58.6 at Under 23 level and Zoe Hyde pulling a PB of 7:53.8 at junior 16 level.

Well done girls.

Next trials are taking place also in Newry on 11&12 of February 2012 so easy up on the Christmas pud

Skibbereen Head of the River

Skibbereen HOR Killorglin Rowing Club athletes had an outstanding weekend at Skibbereen Head of the River at National Rowing Centre (NRC) on 19th of November last.

We had a large group of rowers travelling, with some experiencing their first day of racing. Girls Junior 14 quad of Emma Murphy, Zoe Hyde, Ali O’Sullivan and Dearbhail Ryan coxed by Katie Fay started a new season with a great winning time of 7:56, 19 seconds ahead of the bunch. The boys junior 14 Quad of John F O’Grady, Rob Shaw, Connor Dee and Kieran O’Sullivan coxed by Michelle Moriarty had a wonderful start with a time of 7:33, just 3seconds off the winning crew of Carlow RC.

Well done to all for a great days rowing.

Preparations are now on the way for Muckross Head of the River on the 10th of December in NRC.
