Irish National Championships 2010

Killorglin RC reign supreme at the National Rowing Championships 2010 held at the National Rowing Centre Inniscarra, Co. Cork on Friday and Saturday winning 8 National Titles. It started off Friday morning at 12 o’clock winning the Womens Junior 15 Quad (WJ15 4x+) of Meabh O’Sullivan, Maeve McGillycuddy, Zoe Hyde, Tara Lynch coxed by Kelley Moriarty with the Womens Novice Quad (WN 4x+) of Aisling O’Shea, Aileen Crowley, Caoimhe Purcell, Molly O’Sullivan coxed by Katie Fay coming in 10 min later winning a very tight race against Neptune Rowing Club. What a start!. Friday afternoon brought more victories as Aileen Crowley progressed to the final of Womens Junior 16 Single Sculls and won it with some style. It now makes her the top Junior 16 Sculler in the country. Shortly after Maeve McGillycuddy captured the Womens Junior 15 Single Sculls title. We shouldn’t forget other Killorglin rowers Cathal Clifford, Cian Clifford that won the Mens Novice 8 for UCD boat club. Well done lads!. Saturday morning brought another great day of rowing for the club which started with Zoe Hyde winning the Junior 14 Single Sculls and Molly O’Sullivan coming 3rd in her final. Womens Junior 14 Quad of Michelle Moriarty, Zoe Hyde, Tara Lynch and Molly O’Sullivan coxed by Katie Fay had a great race winning comfortably over a fancied St. Michaels crew from Limerick. Our Mens Novice Four of Paul Sheehan, Martin Leahy, Maurice Sheehan, Sean Deinum coxed by Deirdre O’Donoghue who had a tough draw in their heat facing the eventual winners of the race Shannon RC. Next to go was our Womens Junior 16 Quad of Aileen Crowley, Maeve McGillycuddy, Aisling O’Shea, Meabh O’Sullivan coxed by Kelley Moriarty who had a fantastic win of 2 and a half boat lengths over Neptune RC. In the Womens Senior 8 Killorglin RC was represented by Monika Dukarska in a composite crew which came home with a massive roar from the crowd that had gathered, to win by 2 and a half boat lengths over UCD boat club and beating the hot favorites of the race – Commercial RC. This race finished off what had to be the greatest Irish Rowing Championships for Killorglin Rowing Club with 8 wins.
Next Saturday the 24th of July 2010 sees two of our club rowers representing Ireland in the Home Internationals at the National Rowing Centre – Aileen Crowley in the Womens Junior Eight and Maeve McGillycuddy in the Womens Junior Four. Congratulations to the girls for achieving so much in such a short time. The future is looking bright.
The club also travelled to Cromane Regatta on a Saturday evening with the crew of John-Francis O’Grady, Kieran O’Sullivan, Finoan O’Sullivan and Cliodhna O’Shea coxed by Pieter Homan finishing 2nd in the Junior 12 race. Well done.
