Another success – Cork Head of the River 2011

Cork Head of the River 2011 was a success!

Killorglin Rowing Club athletes took a victory in a Women Junior 14 Quad (WJ14 4x+) and also Women Junior 14 Double Scull (WJ142x) event. The WJ14 4x+ of Molly O’Sullivan, Zoe Hyde, Emma Murphy, Kerri Fay and Katie Fay fought off a strong competition from Skibbereen Rowing Club that had three crews participating in this event. The girls got a time of fifteen min and 58 seconds finishing by more than half of a minute ahead of Skibbereen A crew. Killorglin athletes were out of reach of all other participants in that race as there was a gap of 9 minutes between 1st and 7th place.
The girls raced against the clock over a distance of 4km. The Double Scull of Molly O’Sullivan and Zoe Hyde also won their race comfortably against St. Michael’s crew from Limerick. The girls raced exceptionally well proving once again that the effort put into training and commitment pays off.

The rest of the Club including Senior Men& Women, Adaptive rowers and few juniors took part in training on the river Laune perfecting the technique and covering the mileage as the weather allowed us to do so.Cork Head of the River unfortunately did not offer events for Senior or Adaptive rowers therefore the whole club could not participate in this event.

Once again well done to our great junior girls and we are looking forward to racing season 2011. 🙂 🙂
