Limerick Regatta 2011 Results

Another successful weekend but this time at Limerick Regatta held at O’Brien’s Bridge in Co. Clare. Killorglin athletes left no doubt in other competitor’s minds that they are some of the strongest rowers in the country.

Limerick Regatta was held on 30th of April 2011 on River Shannon. The weather conditions weren’t perfect but even the strong cross wind didn’t stop Killorglin crews. The races started bright and early at 8am with the first race for Killorglin being the Men’s Junior 15 Quad shortly after 10 am. The Men’s Quad of Darragh Mangan, Kieran O’Sullivan, Mark Murphy, John Francis O’Grady coxed by Connor Dee  fought the waves and wind finishing 3rd in their final. The boys are all under-14 and it’s their first year in slider rowing. The boys also raced the Men’s Junior 14 quad finishing 2nd. Well done to you all!

The Women’s Junior 14 quad of Molly O’Sullivan, Zoe Hyde, Emma Murphy and Kerri Fay coxed by Katie Fay won their final comfortably against Shannon, Shandon and Galway crews. Same happened in the Women’s Junior 15 Quad, the crew of Molly O’Sulllivan, Zoe Hyde, Emma Murphy and Michelle Moriarty coxed by Katie Fay took the lead of the start continuing to the finishing line and winning comfortably unbeaten this year.  Next to go was Monika Dukarska that raced the Women Senior Single Scull winning comfortably with 3boat lengths to spare over Orla Hayes of Skibbereen and Moran of Offaly Rowing Club. Monika also teamed up with Maeve McGillycuddy to take the Women Senior Double Scull title. The girls won their race comfortably against Skibbereen and Offaly, beating University of Limerick earlier in the Heat.
Aileen Crowley raced the Women Junior 18 Single Scull showing great determination and character. Aileen raced against top Irish juniors finishing 2nd in the final. Aileen beat Kate O’Brien from Limerick and Hillary Shinnick from Fermoy  both representing Ireland at the Munich Junior Regatta next weekend. Well done Aileen!

After a great weekend of rowing we are getting back to hard training. Our next event is Metropolitan Regatta held in Dublin on 28th of May. It is the 3rd Grand League Regatta of the season.  Dublin Metro event is also the Senior Home International Regatta selection. Good luck all!
