Athlone & Galway Regatta 2011

Great success for Killorglin crews at Athlone and Galway Regatta.

Despite the bad weather conditions for most of the Saturday racing Killorglin RC athletes won the Women’s Junior 14 Quad and Women’s Senior Single.  The WJ14 4x+ of Molly Sullivan, Emma Murphy, Michelle Moriarty and Kerri Fay, coxed by Katie Fay won their race comfortably leaving no doubt that they are the best under14 crew on the day.

Monika Dukarska raced her race against B.Quinn from Three Castles RC winning by 3 boat lengths.

Our Novice boys – Cathal & Cian Clifford finished 3rd in a very tight race in the Intermediate Double Scull. Cian Clifford made the final of the Men’s Novice Single and finished 3rd but stormy weather conditions didn’t allow him to perform at his best.

On Sunday morning the group arrived at Galway Regatta.

The girls and boys raced over 700m stretch of water. First off was the Women’s Junior 14 Double of Molly Sullivan and Michelle Moriarty winning their heat comfortably and winning by 3 feet over the Galway RC crew in the Final.

Cathal Clifford won the Men’s Novice Single Scull heat qualifying to Semi-final later on the day and finishing 2nd  in the Final.

The Women’s Junior 14 Quad of Molly Sullivan, Emma Murphy, Michelle Moriarty and Kerri Fay coxed by Katie Fay won both – the heat and the final very easily. The girls also raced the Women’s Junior 15 Quad ( Zoe Hyde, Emma Murphy, Michelle Moriarty, Kerri Fay, cox Katie Fay) winning against a strong Galway crew. The race was very tight right till the finish. Zoe Hyde also won her Women’s Junior 14 Single Scull and came 2nd in the Women’s Junior 15 1x.

Cathal Clifford raced the Men’s Intermediate Single Scull. He won the heat and qualified to the final losing to NUIG sculler by a boat length.

Everyone had a very enjoyable day. Our next outing is the Cork and Fermoy Regatta on 2nd and 3rd of July. Another full weekend of rowing.
