Monika Dukarska represented Killorglin Rowing Club at the FISA World Coastal Rowing Championships 2011 in Bari Italy.
Monika raced in qualification race on Friday finishing 2nd in her heat, qualifying her for the A Final on Saturday. The weather conditions deteriorated during the heats but Monika fought the waves and big swells bravely. On Saturday the course was extended to 8km with 6 turning buoys in total. The course consisted of two triangles and straight stretch of approx 1100m . The first 4 was off of the start together extending the lead over the rest of the field. The three French girls worked together well as a team bringing a new trend into World Rowing, pretty much like a cycling team and Italian sculler moved away quickly. Monika just missed out on a podium by 3 seconds after an outstanding performance. It was difficult to outmaneuver the French as they worked as a team. The French scullers finished 1st,3rd and 5th. The World Coastal Rowing Championships in 2012 will be held in Croatia.
Next event for Monika and the Club will be Trials for Irish Team in November in the Newry Canal.
