Killorglin Rowing Club athletes took part in the first Head of the River(HOR) of 2012 that was held at O’Brien’s Bridge in Limerick. St. Michaels HOR was ran over 3,200m with crews racing against the clock. I was a very good day for Killorglin winning the Women’s Junior 15 Quad of Emma Murphy, Zoe Hyde, Ali O’Sullivan and Kerri Fay coxed by Katie Fay with time of 13:02s beating all Women’s Junior 15 and Junior16 quads. There were 26 crews competing in this category. Well done girls, great achievement.
Killorglin RC also won the Women’s Senior Single Sculls. Monika Dukarska had a massive row over 3.2km with a time of 13:16s – 24seconds ahead of all her other competitors. Looking good and coming into great form for her national trials in two weeks’ time!
The men’s junior 15 crew of John F O’Grady, Rob Shaw, Kieran O’Sullivan and Connor Dee coxed by Matt O’Connor finished 3rd out of 29 crews competing in this category. It was an excellent result as it was a new course for some and they competed against experienced crews from Presentation College Cork and Calaiste Iognaid Rowing Clubs. The boys are determined to improve their times and become the leaders in the MJ15 quad category.
Zoe Hyde improved her times in the Women’s Junior 15 Single Sculls hugely however missed out on a win by just 0.1seconds due to direction. We are sure, it won’t happen again 😉
Big thank you to all parents and Club officers that helped out on the day and fought bravely the mucky conditions. Special thanks to Mike G Fleming for preparing the crews and proving once again that Killorglin RC is one of the top clubs in Irish Rowing.
Our next event is Cork Head of the River on 18th of February and two of our athletes, Monika and Zoe will travel to National Trials in Newry on 11th and 12th of February. Best of Luck.
