Cork HOR Report

Large group of athletes and supporters  travelled to Cork Head of the River(HOR) on Saturday 18th of February. Rowers took part in 7 events, racing over 4,000m course. Killorglin athletes performed very well in windy and rainy conditions that challenged many experienced crews.

The first race was the WJ15 quad of Michelle Moriarty, Ali O’Sullivan, Kerri Fay and Dearbhail Ryan coxed by Katie Fay that finished second to Skibbereen RC followed by our MJ15 boys crew of  John F O’Grady, Rob Shaw, Kieran O’Sullivan and Connor Dee coxed by Matthew O’Connor that finished 3rd behind two Presentation College Cork crews. That was a very good result for both crews. Well done.

Our next crew of Emma Murphy and Zoe Hyde raced in the WJ16 double scull event winning with second to spare to Skibbereen. Girls are under15 so it was a great achievement.

Connor Dee took part in the J15 and  Matt O’Connor  in the J16 single scull categories. It was their first sculling race and they were outstanding.

We also race the WJ18 coxless quad of Michelle Moriarty, Emma Murphy, Zoe Hyde and Kerri Fay finishing 2nd behind Shandon RC crew. Our junior crew has another 3 years in this category but it was great to see our young athletes beating some of very experienced rowers.

Kieran O’Sullivan and John F O’Grady both under14 raced in the MJ16 double scull category, showing their potential for the future.

Our next event is Galway HOR in March.Side by side racing approaches fast, roll on April. Well done to all!
