Lee Regatta

179 Kerri in actionIt was a blustery, but fine day at the Marina in Cork last Saturday when our crews took to the water for the Lee Sprint Regetta. With ten crews entered the 500m races, it was a busy day and the girls Novice double (Emma Murphy/Dearbhaill Ryan) were first off and set the pace finishing 2nd (pipped by 1metre) to a powerful Shannon crew. They were followed by Kieran O’Sullivan in the U15 Single who pushed his rival all the way to the line – had the race been longer Kieran might have caught him. The Boys U15 double (John Francis O’Grady/Kieran O’Sullivan) were strong winners of their race, followed later in the day by very impressive win by the Boys u16 Quad. The gusty headwinds were difficult to row into and resulted in a few “dumpings”, crashes and broken oars, but luckily no Killorglin rower ended up the lovely Lee, and rest of our crews mostly finishing 3rd. Special mention to Sean Houlihan in his first single scull race. Between the wind and the strong current from an outgoing tide, keeping a straight line was hard going, but Sean battled on and did well coming 4th. Thanks to all the Dads for their “hand-on” support and work throughout the day, especially David O’Sullivan for pulling the boats.
