Lee Sprint Regatta, 14th of May

Congratulations to our juniors on their fantastic performances at Lee Sprint Regatta last weekend.

First win of the day went to Sean Houlihan in the Men’s Junior 16 Single Sculls. Sean raced a very strong race leading from the start and winning over Shandon, Lee and Workman’s scullers. The crew of Mara Treacy, Rhiannon O’Donoghue, Anna Tyther, Alanna Dolan and Molly O’Grady took another victory shortly after and won the junior 16 quad with ease, against Shandon, Kenmare and Shannon crews. The girls didn’t rest on their laurels for long. In the afternoon they raced a superb race in the Women’s Junior 15 quad to win with clear water advantage over Lee, Shandon, Shannon and Skibbereen crews.

We had a number of races with close finishes, Caragh Edwards and Marie O’Connor were 2nd in the Women’s Club Double Scull. Rhiannon O’Donoghue missed out on the win in the Women’s Junior 15 Single Scull by a bow ball, while our Women’s Junior 16 doubles, both in men and women categories (crews of Sean Houlihan and Michael O’Connor & Anna Tyther and Rhiannon O’Donoghue) also finished second in their races. The Lee Rowing Club crew piped us in the Women’s Junior 15 double race in the afternoon and the crew of Anna Tyther and Rhiannon O’Donoghue finished 2nd overall. Similarly, the girls just missed out in the women’s Junior 16 Double Scull to Workman’s Crew of Killarney.

Stephen O’Sullivan was 3rd in the Men’s Club Single Sculls, likewise Molly O’Grady and Mara Tracey finished 3rd in the Women’s Junior 15 double final.

Well do to all our rowers on a good day’s work and great racing.

Our next event is the Metropolitan Grand League regatta in Blessington, Co. Wicklow on the 28th of May. We will have juniors as well as Seniors in action!
