What an amazing championship for the Club!Killorglin athletes secured two championship wins and one senior championship title for the Club.
First victory went to our Men’s Junior 16 Quad of Michael O’Connor, Sean Houlihan, Conor Murphy and Shane O’Connor coxed by Mara Treacy. The boys won their heat comfortably and qualified for the final. In the final they displayed magnificent rowing, the rowing stroke was controlled, long and powerful. The boys won their race with 3 second lead over Shandon A crew of Cork with further 3 seconds to Commercial Rowing Club of Dublin.
Shortly after, the Women’s Junior 15 quad of Mara Treacy, Molly O’Grady, Rhiannon O’Donoghue and Anna Tyther coxed by Alanna Dolan followed the victorious track set by boys and won their final over Carlow, Muckross and Clonmel crews.
Monika Dukarska won her 7th National Championship Title since taking up rowing in early 2007. Monika became the Senior Single Scull Champion of Ireland in a massive time of 7:35.06 over 2000m. Monika lead the race from start to finish executing her race perfectly and opening a lead of 16 seconds over McCrohan of Tribesmen, Galway, the reigning Champion 2015. Having moved back into the single in February this year, Monika worked very hard to get back into top form and she has proven once again that her talents lie in sculling and this rowing event suits her in particular. Monika will now return to training in preparations for the World University Championships in September in Poznan, Poland. She will race the single scull for Ireland & IT Tralee.
