The June Bank Holiday weekend was a very busy and successful time for the Club.
Abroad, Monika Dukarska represented the Club at the 150th London Metropolitan Regatta, which was held on the 2012 Olympic rowing venue in Dorney lake. Monika claimed two victories in the Women’s Championship Single Scull event on both days, the Saturday and Sunday. Monika dominated all of her races from start to finish and claimed the Earl of Iveagh Cup, which was presented to the winning sculler in the Championship event on Saturday. The cup was presented to the National Rowing Association by the Earl of Iveagh – Edward Guinness in 1935.
In Ireland, the Carlow Regatta our Junior Women team of Rhiannon O’Donoghue, Mara Treacy, Molly O’Grady, Katie Boyle, Anna Griffin and Eimear O’Donovan together with our Junior Sculler – Eoghen Joy represented the Club in Carlow. The girls came out on top in three quad events – the Women’s Junior 16, 18 and Club races. Anna Griffin and Katie Boyle also won the Women’s Junior 15 double scull against Clonmel, bringing the total number of wins for the weekend to six.
Well done to all of our rowers over the weekend!
Big thanks to Gavin O’Grady and Donal O’Donoghue for looking after the junior team in Carlow. Also, thanks to Anne Murphy and all parents who helped out with our bag packing at the weekend.
